The Bears Lair is a Super Sweet intimate performance venue at a private home in North Austin. All shows are done on a suggested donation basis, $15 has proven to be a good price point, and All proceeds go directly to you, the artists! Proprietors Stevie Bear & Amy Mashberg have been hosting local and travelling musicians from all over the world for over 20 years now, as a labor of love, and a way of giving back to a community that gives so much to so many. We provide the set-up of the space, as well as a door person, and a place for you to display and sell merchandise before, during and after the show, along with some pre-show social media advertising. While we garner a small and dedicated crowd at The Bears Lair, it is highly suggested that you also expose your show to your audience as well, for the best turnout possible, and we are happy to send you the Facebook event page we create to make it easier for you do so. We are also happy to assist with merchandise sales during the show if you desire, just let us know prior to the show, so that we can be as prepared as possible.
The outdoor space at The Bears Lair is an amazing and magical space to experience, and can hold up to 75 comfortably, with some space for spill overs or standing room only. Soft Lighting outlines the towering oaks overhanging two stages, while fans supplementing the seasonal breezes, and a natural mosquito misting system helps keep the ample decks and patios comfy for our attendees and artists. Most shows have a doors open time of 7pm, and a start time of 730, with a break mid-way and wrap up time of 11pm ish. Past experience has shown that most artist are able to set up within an hour or so, but we are available for artist arrival and set up as early as 4pm day of a show. The lighting now in place has been found to be sufficient by most artist, but you may want to bring additional lighting for your own purposes. The Bears Lair also has other sound and stage gear available, much of it purchased from or donated by previous performers, to make it as easy as possible on our performing artist, and the compilation of what we currently have for use is listed below.

Note that we only do 12-16 shows a year, split between a spring and fall season, and we generally sign up talent at least a season in advance. We offer Full refunds (minus pay pals small handling fee) for any artist cancellation or artist re-schedule that a pre-paid attendee may not be available for. Please note – it is important for you to be in touch with us, particularly in the week leading up to the show, so that if weather becomes an issue, we can plan on the best way to deal with it together.
